Wool, linen wool blend, brass buttons, 1748–67, 1080 x 410 x 280 mm, national maritime museum, uni0003. this coat was designed for a naval lieutenant. although it is similar in style to the coat worn by sir peter warren, it is much plainer, without any gold embellishment. this shows that the officer holds a lower rank.
