Hello friends! today we replaced the oil cooler lines on my 2012 gmc sierra with the help of a couple could ones. this fix works on all 2007, 2008, 2009, 201. 9796 posts · joined 2015. #20 · aug 6, 2024. yes, cooler oil makes for a happier engine. i suppose if you never work the truck (like never towing hauling anything), deleting the cooler is reasonable, but if you do use it as a truck, i would fix it. replacing the hoses and using hose clamps to secure them is one option. Background: gm includes an engine oil cooler on its 3 4 ton and up platforms (it can be added to other v8 equipped vehicles). unfortunately, it's the biggest cause of oil leaks. if you see oil dripping from the area of your oil filter look just above it, and you'll likely find the source where the cooler mounts to the engine block. I purchased some uv dye to put in the oil and found that it was leaking from the plug on the side of the oil cooler block. please see attached pics. i modified a 3 8ths hex to fit in the small face and pulled the plug to find a hard piece of plastic acting as the o ring. i went and purchased a small o ring kit and a 9 16th o ring fit.
