When you change out your transmission fluid to a synthetic, or if the fluid is badly burned, this is the method for flushing out the converter and oil cooler. Measure the amount and put the same amount of new fluid back into the transmission. should be about 4 to 5 quarts. disconnect the upper tube going into the transmission heat exchanger. on the 4r70w, fluid comes from the transmission into the upper connection on the heat exchanger.

The ford maintenance schedule for 2000 called for transmission service at 30k miles. the truck was still under warranty at this time and the master ford mechanic drained the t c and pan then refilled the transmission splashing fluid on the t c vanes. i have repeated the service six more times, transmission has 232k miles now and no problems.
