The rich young man and as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, โgood teacher, what must i do to inherit eternal life?โ and jesus said to him, โwhy do you call me good? no one is good except god alone. you know the commandments: โdo not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your.
The rich young man once a man came to jesus. โteacher,โ he asked, โwhat good thing must i do to receive eternal life?โ โwhy do you ask me concerning what is good?โ answered jesus. โthere is only one who is good. keep the commandments if you want to enter life.โ โwhat commandments?โ he asked. jesus answered, โdo not commit murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do. Jesus responds, โsell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow meโ ( matt. 19:21 ). we know from the four gospels that jesus did not call all of his hearers to give away all their possessions. not all people are as burdened by their possessions as this young man was. The rich young man may miss entering the kingdom of god as much because of his slavery to status as because of his slavery to wealth per se. in todayโs workplaces, status and wealth may or may not go hand in hand. for those who grow in both wealth and status through their work, this is a double caution. even if we manage to use wealth in a.
