Adventures In Hartley Land Potty Training

Here are some pictures of her training her doll. changing the diaper. not quite able to get it on. then she decided to put the baby on the potty because the diapers were too difficult. don't worry, the potty is completely sterile and clean, i had just bleached it. so proud of the baby in the potty. what a funny and observant little girl she is. We are working on potty training. i'm really relaxed about it, so it is kind of a long process. she does really well when i remember to keep her out of diapers, but she just refuses to do a certain business without her diaper. hopefully she will figure it out soon. but for now she is doing great. here are some pictures of her training her doll.

Clockwise from top left: ellie, abby, elijah, and caleb. best laid plans, and all that jazz. day 1: so that fateful monday morning, we were up and ready to hit potty training running. i wasn't going to force it on anyone, but i wanted to give everyone the option to try. ellie, abby, and elijah were all game. 🙂 oh the adventures of potty training! i had planned to do the 3 day method with ashlyn and then the day came and by the end of the day she just cried and cried for her diaper. 🙁 against everything in me, i knew her strong willed personality would come on pretty strong in this situation, so we just put her "big girl panties" away for awhile. 1. i used training pants (link above) instead of full on undies. we are still using them because they absorb a bit more if she does have an accident. i don't totally love the idea of pull ups. i think they are too close to diapers and make kids too comfortable to really "get" the "peeing in my pants sucks" feeling. 2. I don’t know what potty training at 18 months would have been like, but 25 months was great so i’m glad i took my pediatrician’s advice. looking back i probably didn't need all the treats, prizes, stickers etc. but it sure made it fun and exciting. that little chicken that laid candy was a big hit. potty training is such a milestone….

Choose your own adventure. the most successful trick i found for potty training was letting my child choose for herself. over the summer, when we weren't going anywhere too often (other than the pool), and would mostly play in the backyard close to home, i would let her choose whether she wanted a diaper or panties.
