Step 2: mark the pond. place the preformed pond liner down in your chosen location. stake the outside edge of the pond with your marking stakes. use the leveling sand (or spray paint) to mark the outside edge of the pond liner, as well as, any tiers or shelves your pond liner has. remove the marking stakes.

Building A Garden Pond Part 1 Youtube 4. make the pond a minimum of 1.5 ft (0.46 m) deep. the depth of your pond depends on how you are planning to use it. to have aquatic plants and goldfish in the pond, approximately 1.5–2 ft (0.46–0.61 m) deep is adequate. for a koi pond, you will need a depth of at least 3 ft (0.91 m). Fill the hollow cores of the blocks with dirt and compacted it down. be sure the cinder blocks are level. now you have a sturdy, level surface to place your waterfall unit on that will settle very little. another advantage of using the cinder blocks is the fact you didn’t use dirt that’s excavated from the pond. Excavate the dirt. dig the pond perimeter by following the inside of the garden hose shape. use the flat shovel to dig. remove the hose. switch to the regular shovel and continue digging until you reach the desired depth, usually 18 to 36 inches. Make the pond edges level. dig the garden pond so that all edges around the entire perimeter are the same height, with no deviation. a garden pond's water level is only as high as the lowest point of the pond perimeter. any low points are spillover points. it's hard to retroactively build up low edges, so plan this in advance. 02 of 16.
