It's not about the eyes. it's about coraline choosing to replace her eyes to stay. only then will she prove she loves her back. the other, less psychologically complex reason, is also summed up in a qoute: "you like games". the other mother is cruel and delights in playing with her prey. after all, what could a child do against her, anyway?.
