Cushman Haulster Vanster Various pics from my 1987 cushman haulster model 898456. the haulster came with an 18 or 22 hp engine. this is the later 22 hp engine, which is identified by the spark plugs being on top of the engine. when i changed the oil the last time, i used a fram ph16 oil filter. the wal mart brand equivalent is the super tech st16. I replaced the old original 8" wheels tires with vampire 10" wheels with low profile tires. the height is the same (18") as the old wheels and tires, so there is no clearance issue. the wheels are golf cart wheels and have a different lug pattern than stock cushman, so i had to use adapters. the tires stick out 4 inches. 1987 cushman haulster aka "vanster". 22 hp omc engine. Posts: 567. re: 86 cushman vanster questions. yes, there is a ring gear located around the inside of the right rear brake drum that turns a small nylon gear, whose shaft turns the speedometer cable. if you look behind the right rear brake plate you will find the speedometer cable connection below the axle.
