(i know, cliche, but i know how to role play it). the first impulse is to go wood elf fighter, starting stats 8 17 14 10 14 12; longbow as the primary weapon; rapiers as backups for the dirty infighting. It's about excellence in a weapon, and that's the fighter's main mo. i've done very well with a fighter 5 rogue 2 or 3 build before. definitely get fighter 5 for extra attack. rogue adds in maneuvering options like bonus action disengage and dash, the excellent advantage giving of steady aim (again, from tasha's cauldron) that suits an archer.
