If you examine the different colors of the flower you will notice that the outside petals are a white yellow color. to capture the subtle color changes you will add a white pastel first then add a light yellow. you will want more white than yellow. add yellow in the middle of the petals leaving the tips white. Add the stems first by using the top square part of the oil pastel stick. draw a straight line where you want the stem to be. use your pinky finger to smooth out the paint. you won’t want to blend it too much or won’t look like a stem. ensure that each flower has a stem so it isn’t floating in midair. Step one: lightly sketch out your flower petals using a pale colored pencil. lay your artwork on a paper towel to protect your table surface. lay in the basic colors using your favorite soft oil pastel sticks. i began with neo pastels, mungyo and sakura expressionist oil pastels because that is what i had on hand.
