Ford Focus Gear Cable Adjustment 1. put the shifter in neutral. 2. carefully pop pry up the orange lock on the back of the cable end. 3. wiggle the shifter around trying to find the best center position don't shift into a gear. 4. push in the orange lock on the back of the cable end. take it out for a test drive and see how all the gear gates feel. Make sure you cut wide enough to get to the bolts that hold in the shift cables. then you can remove the shifter cables from the shifter base. pry them off the shift tower itself and then untwist the knobs holding them to the shifter base. pull up after you have untwisted them enough.
Ford Focus Gear Cable Adjustment 1. 1turbofocus. 33537 posts · joined 2003. #2 · oct 18, 2017. there are 2 orange tabs on the ends of the shift cable , if you pop these tabs up and have some one find and hold steady a good center neutral location on the shift tower shifter and hold why you pop the tabs back down. this must be done why in neutral. 2 release cable adjusters. 3 install lever locating tool or do your best to keep it centered. 4 lock cable adjusters. 5 remove lever locating tool. you may have to do it a couple times to get it right. I've replaced plenty of shifter cables and have never had a problem. i can unclip the cable from the transmission then manually click the transmission in drive, put the shifter in drive inside the car and then snap the cable back in the transmission and i still have to push the shifter up towards neutral for it to shift right.
