Headspacing A Non Matching Barrel With An Oversize Pin Build Your Own How to headspace your barrel with an oversized pin when using a non matching barrel for your build.#note this video is not yet available on the dvd. Jan 1, 2017. #1 4. i dug out an old ak kit i bought years ago, and looking it over to possibly do a build, i've noticed a that it has an oversized barrel pin already installed. it's apparently a romanian, mismatched, with a fully populated us barrel. the pin mics at .313 on my caliper. my concern is that once the barrel is off, i may not be.

Headspacing I Run drill bits at a higher speed and a reamer at the lower or lowest speed when cutting the journal area. go slow with both but the reamer for sure or you can snap a $25 tool. if at all possible.,i do the reaming with the rivets completed and then set the barrel pin right after the reaming is completed. saves any more of the in and out routine. So i just headspaced a pre populated barrel into a non matching trunnion. i took a couple pics so you can see how far it’s off. luckily for me, it’s not off by much and an oversized barrel pin will do the job nicely. this is a 1978 romy g barrel that i pressed out of a trunnion, and then pressed it into a different trunnion that i want to. Volume i covers both headspacing procedures and the population of the barrel components in a non original barrel or virgin barrel ak parts kit. both ak 47 and ak 74 build procedures are described in the first book. Topics include: measuring the barrel journals cut extractor relief on chamber end of the barrel cut the clocking notches for the lower hand guard retainer strip bolt, in preparation for headspace check align, and press front trunnion onto chamber end of barrel headspacing end mill ream barrel pin notch, and set barrel pin.
