Attempt to start the dead car: try to start the engine of the car with the dead battery. if it works, disconnect the jumper cables. if not, wait a few seconds and try again to start the dead car. Connect one end of the negative jumper cable to the negative terminal on the charged battery and the other end of the cable to a grounded metal component on the car with the dead battery, like the frame or chassis. turn on the car with the charged battery. leave the cars connected for at least five minutes.
