Create the outline of the illusion. the first step in drawing a 3d optical illusion on paper is to create the outline. this is where you set the framework for your illusion. think of it as the skeleton of your artwork. let's say you've decided to draw a simple 3d cube. start by drawing a square on your paper. Fill in the area outside the steps with a black marker. use a pencil to shade in the toe board areas of your 3d stairs. this will be every other section, starting with the second section. you have to turn your drawing so you are viewing it at the correct angle to be able to see the optical illusion. Here’s a step by step guide: draw a square in the center of your paper. add two lines on either side of the square, parallel to each other and perpendicular to the square. these will be the sides of the cube. connect the lines at the top and bottom of the square with two more lines. add shading to the sides of the cube to make it look more.
