Materials for a gallery walk: infographics – students read and look for different chunks of language or vocabulary. images – have students write a sentence or phrase from your current chapter based on what they see. readings – students look for specific pieces of information in each selection. student presentations live, set up on. Gallery walks can go by many names, but generally it refers to the practice of hanging materials around the room and having students walk from place to place.
Spread the material around the room. either tape things to the wall, or set them on desks that are set apart. if you have access to it, sometimes it’s fun to make this a change of scenery! tape things up in the hallway, down in the cafetería, or in a large student area! if you have same level colleagues it can be really fun to combine. 1:20 – use in stations centers. 2:40 – use in your classroom library for fvr. 3:30 – warm up closing (or an exit ticket !) 5:05 – use for horizontal translation. 7:18 – use as an example for writing activities. 9:00 – use as an assessment or final project. Reasons to love gallery walks movement. i love using gallery walks to get my students up and moving. my high schoolers often moan and groan about “aw, do we have to get up?” but i notice that once they are actually up, they are usually more engaged! they seem happier, more confident, and i find i get more buy in with my lessons.
