In this video its time to get these spring flowerbeds in shape. we first start by weeding them and clearing out old tired plants. we then put in a good mix o. Step 2: till your dirt and remove any extra weeds roots. we've had a small electric tiller for years if you regularly maintain any kind of garden, this is so great to have around. (this model is discontinued, but there's a similar one here .) i used the tiller to go over any dirt in the garden before we put down fabric. A quick word on landscape fabric: i typically don't use landscape fabric, but in this case, the homeowners requested it. i do, however, use it in very limited areas in my own garden where i don't plan on having anything naturalize (like in areas where…. I was so exhausted we saved the backyard for last month when the weather started to warm up. for each flowerbed we completely removed all the pine straw, weeded (they needed it badly!!), edged and then laid landscape weed blocking fabric down. then we topped it with about 2 3″ of mulch. i felt like i did nothing but mulch the yard for two.
