Outrigger sailing canoe model b on the beach. the conversion of the canoe i built into an outrigger sailing canoe got me hooked on outriggers, so i had to design and build a better one. the model b has a 16′ long by 16″ wide main hull that breaks apart into two 8′ pieces for easier storage.
Wooden Boat Kayak Plans Ocean Sailboat On a very windy day while paddling from san francisco to oakland i broke a blade while trying to keep from broaching while surfing waves in a heavy sea canoe. so the paddle is good for fast paddling on smooth water, but not acceptable for rough water. the other paddle i built is for outrigger canoes. canoe paddle. i built it out of wood scraps. Waterline width was about 25 30 cm. the outrigger was 190 cm c to c and with a very sharp profile so it would counter drift when going upwind. with the outrigger clear of the water it would turn easily for close manouvering. stern was plumb and fitted with a kick up rudder. A plywood sailing canoe, whether stitch and glue or strip plank will be half the weight of a sailing dinghy. the canoe comes out of 3 to 5 sheets of 4mm (5 32″) ply. or it should if properly designed! compared to my goat island skiff design which is regarded as a very light sailing dinghy tops the scales at 130lbs in comparison a plywood.
