Always been a mk5 guy, but i bought a 2003 jetta gls 2.0l about 2 months ago. at the time the car needed just a brake caliper. no check engine lights. it did however have the temperature light on. my clueless self for a while thought it was the oil pressure light, but since realized im dumb.

A 1998 jetta gl 2.0 weighed 2590 lbs and a 1999 mkiv weighs 2853 lbs. almost 300 lbs, a 10% difference. having driven (not extensively in either case) both models, the mkiv is by far much comfier, but it does feel a good bit heavier. somewhere in that three hundred pounds it seems to me to cross the "heavy" line.
