The trade off for a little extra volume at 34 hz is a very heavy cone that breaks up fairly early and requires a steep slope to the mid to suppress the breakup. the sb ceramic is much smoother, to the point that on quite a bit of music you might think you were listening to a decent 2 way if you played the woofer alone without a crossover. Speaking for myself, the peak in the 2 3khz region is a showstopper without eq. way too much “glare” in guitars and upper female vocals for me. with eq, it’s much better. i tested the v1 of this speaker nearly two years ago and i back then i noted that the treble was a bit too bright. I based my observation from hificompass website. there are bmr46, tc6 and tc9, bmr is just tiny bit more directive than tc6 and less directive then tc9. the sd for tc6 is 15.2 cm^2, for bmr is 19.6 cm^2, for tc9 is 36.3 cm^2. bmr does have better distortion and sensitivity then tc6, but hard to say better directivity then the other two.

So almost all of the newer bmrs (whether you got them from philharmonic, salk, or flat packs) have rectangle cabinets. probably not quite as deep, but even wider through the back. if i remember correctly, mine (which are in the rectangular piano black cabinets) weigh about 30 35 pounds per speaker, so they've definitely got some meat on them.
