Images By Thelma Lawless On My Pins Math Activities Maps—geography lessons in action! september 2, 2015 ~ feisty mama. we have been using pin it! maps for our geography lessons since the end of july. i thought i’d provide a little update on how we have been using our maps this past month. i’ll share a bit about our favorite map, utilizing free material on the site, using the maps with. Pin punching is an activity commonly found in montessori classrooms. it is a great way to help kids focus on the shape of the continents. plus, pin punching provides great fine motor practice. for pin punching activities, we use a wood handled pin puncher from montessori services paired with a high quality, thick felt mat, also from montessori. Get 3 small glass jars with lids. put potting soil in jar #1, put water and a few drops of blue food coloring in jar #2, and leave jar #3 empty. label jar #1 “land,” jar #2 “water,” and jar #3 “air.”. beg, borrow, or steal a pile of magazines. travel magazines work well for this activity. Mark land and water on the map using playdough. roll out the playdough and add color to depict various map features, such as mountains, seas, etc. to create a vibrant and instructive map of the area, place the playdough shapes there. my son enjoyed this, and it served as a good sensory play.
