Born september 10, 1843 in connecticut, orlando scott goff was a photographer active in the dakota territory. goff was enlisted in the union army 10th ct infantry company k from september 19, 1861 august 25, 1865. he is registered as orlando goff, orlando b. goff, and orlando s. goff. goff suffered a gunshot wound to his right breast and arm.
Fotografier Pгґ Sitting Bull In 1881, orlando scott goff, a local wet plate photographer, took the first image of sitting bull in bismarck, n.d. sitting bull had just surrendered and was being transferred to fort yates when the entourage stopped in bismarck. as an eyewitness, j.d. allen, described: “sitting bull was asked to go to the ‘gallery’ of o.s. goff, the town. Sitting bull this photo was taken in bismarck in 1881 when sitting bull left canada and surrendered at ft. buford. on the steamboat trip to the standing rock reservation, they stopped for the night in bismarck and orlando saw a chance to get the first photograph taken of the famous sioux chieftain and was able to persuade sitting bull to have his photo taken for which orlando paid him $50.00.
