Atp Automotive Y 1312 Manual Transmission Shift Cable 11 posts · joined 2010. #1 · dec 16, 2010. first remove the battery. to make it easy to access the shifter cable on the transmittion remove the battery box. pop off the cables by pushing the botton on top of the connection and twist them toward the rear end of the car. then from the inside of the car remove the center console by. Then reconnect everything you took off, put all of the interior pieces back in and you're done. i make it seem complicated but its really not, it is just extremely annoying to do but its better than paying ford 800$ (that was my estimate) to get it done. the part was about 110$ and 6 hours of my time. 6 posts · joined 2011. #1 · mar 8, 2011. my shifter cable died so i went to the local dealer to get one. at this point i had 1st, 3rd & 5th gear, no 2,4, or reverse. i have a 2002 zx5, 5 speed manual transmission, dohc. using my vin they identified the part and off i went. the old part is marked xs4r 7e395 hd. the new one is marked 2s4z 7e395 fc. Unclip cables from shifter (if they aren't broken loose already like mine) 14.) remove 10mm nut on holder keeping cables away from manifold under hood. 15.) unclip cables from trans and linkage bracket. 16.) remove 2 10mm nuts from firewall plate on shift cable. 17.) feed shift cable through to the inside of the car.
