This is the setup we use to cut the illinois plaques for caael. roque, a recent graduate, was able to rout 50 of these in about 3 hours, faster than we can. Looking at a local scmi r8 pin router and it just looks like a machine that could be practical. i have the space and the machine itself isn't too expensive. i'm thinking of using it for contouring circular forms of wood and plunge cutting openings in same forms.
A quick check showed industrial pin routers in the $1000 to $3500 range. you can pick up a used delta hd shaper today for $650.00 without even shopping around, and it will do a lot better job on your parts than a pin router would. you can run just as small parts on a shaper as on a pin router.
