Skedee Oklahoma Is A Long Forgotten Vacant Ghost Town About eight miles northeast of pawnee, oklahoma, is skedee, a six block, don’t blink or you’ll miss it ghost of a town. the town’s last major intersection, where second and market streets collide, is occupied by an abandoned mobile home nestled in a weedy lot; a shattered wooden storefront shrouded by a screen of scruffy trees; the two story stone wall of a gutted, roofless store; and a. Skedee is an old town in pawnee county in northern oklahoma. the population was 51 at the 2010 census, a dramatic decline from the town’s peak of more than 2,000. skedee’s name was originally lemert, after a local family that owned land there. the town was established in 1902, but problems were soon to arise. The bond of friendship monument now towers over a virtual ghost town; its neighbors are a vacant lot, a collapsing food market building, auto garage, and long abandoned service station, which when we visited still advertised gas at 49.9 a gallon. the lone stop sign in town is almost unrecognizable under many layers of spray paint graffiti. Skedee was one of many communities that sprang up after the 1893 land run. originally called lemert, the name was changed when a post office was established.
