Students Cooking Up Change In Spite Of Lax Nutrition Requirements Cooking up change® is a program that challenges high school students to create healthy, great tasting meals that meet the real life requirements of the national school meal program. it serves up life changing opportunities for students to transform the school lunch menu, as well as engage in culinary, nutrition, and food science career pathways. Recently, student chefs from six cities across the country were at the department of education to participate in the cooking up change national finals. these talented students earned their way by winning local competitions in boston, chicago, dallas, houston, orange county and troy, alabama. they engaged in a cook off that saw the team from. As official judges for the final contestants of the 2023 cooking up change program, we felt the impact. with support from northgate, kid healthy has partnered with the healthy schools campaign to bring cooking up change to orange county, ca since 2012. this year marked the 10 th such event, and we were honored to be there representing fmi. Seven teams of student chefs from across the country converged on the u.s. department of education (ed) headquarters recently to be judged on their efforts to create innovative and healthy menus for school lunches that would appeal to their fellow students. the teams were national finalists in the healthy schools campaign cooking up change.
