About midnight june 25, 1973, a young murphysboro couple, randy needham and judy johnson, were sitting in needham’s car in riverside park on the southwest edge of murphysboro, bordering the big muddy river. they heard a cry, inhuman, loud and shrieking, in the trees along the river’s edge. then they spied a seven foot tall creature slowly. On june 25, 1973, murphysboro, illinois, a small town on the banks of the big muddy river, had several sightings of a hair and mud covered monster. a couple sitting in their car heard weird shrieks start to come from the woods nearby; then a huge figure — eight feet tall — covered with light brown hair and what appeared to be mud, came out.
