November Block Of The Month Sawtooth Star Quilt Block Press. stitch the two 2″ x 12 1 2″ pieces to the two sides of the block. press. stitch the two 2″ x 15 1 2″ pieces to the top and bottom of the block. press. trim finished block to a 15″ square (if all of your measurements seams were prefect the block will be 15 1 2″ before trimming. The sawtooth star is a traditional 8 point star (with probably many other names) and one of the most classic and versatile quilt blocks. as part of this riley blake block challenge i've been making 6" and 12" blocks. scroll down to find links to instructions for all of the past week's blocks in 6" and 12" sizes.

November Block Of The Month Sawtooth Star Quilt Block Sawtooth star – flying geese units. step one: begin by laying a piece (a) on the top and right side of a piece (c). sew along the diagonal marked line. step two – three: cut off the excess fabric and set your seam with an iron. open the seam and press. step four: next, take another piece (a) and lay it on the top left side of the same piece. Press the seam allowance toward fabric b. place a fabric b square on the corner of fabric a. sew ¼” from either side of the marked line. repeat with the other unit and remaining fabric b square. cut along the marked line. press the seam allowance toward fabric b. trim the flying geese units to 3” x 5½”, making sure to trim ¼” away. The sawtooth star block has always been one my favorite quilt blocks. up until recently, admiring it was all i could do. for some reason, it intimidated me a. Press seams open or to the sides. you will have a little bit extra at the end to cut off. finally, we will take our remaining (4) pieces of 8.5" x wof. sew two pieces together to make (2) strips of approximately 8.5" x 84". align with the edge of the top and bottom of your quilt and sew them on using 1 4" seams.
