Various events in preparation for this weekend's umkhosi womhlanga, or reed dance festival, at the amazulu enyokeni palace in kwanongoma, are taking place th. Umkhosi womhlanga was introduced during the time of king shaka, where basically the young zulu maidens would gather together in a festival and celebrate being maidens. Nearly 50 000 zulu maidens came to participate in the sacred ceremony called umkhosi womhlanga or zulu reed dance. dressed in their beautiful traditional attire made out of colourful beads, bright short skirts and bare breasted, the maidens were radiating happiness as they sang and danced.
