Think Inside The Box The Power Of Creative Constraint

Creative constraint is what makes vine videos and 3 chord punk and live theater so fun to experience. it’s also why the plot constraints of the hero’s journey led to the epic star wars trilogy. the point is, life will hand you boxes. but every box is an opportunity to be more creative. it’s all about how you think about it.

Thinking inside the box is akin to solving a fun puzzle. the constraint makes it interesting to find a solution within the boundaries of the “problem world.”. increased focus. thinking inside the box is a more focused innovation approach where we are encouraged to reconsider elements within the problem world and to pay closer attention to them. The value of creative constraints. as we saw last week, being told to ‘think outside the box’ is no guarantee of inspiration. and the thought experiments suggest that sometimes it’s easier to be creative ‘inside the box’ of details and constraints. could it be that creative freedom is overrated?.
