I recently bought a bulgarian ak74 kit (less barrel), i have made two choices of barrel types ,first is the east german weiger chrome lined hammer forged from arms of america and my second is a us version bulgarian,both are virgin barrels.

And start your peen marks about 1 8" back from the muzzle end of the tenon and only punch a 1 4" 3 8" wide area, just a few punch marks around the diameter. a properly fitted barrel pin will do the rest. better to use a hand knurler, the hammer and punch method is pretty inconsistent.
